In today's Wordless Wednesday, we want to remind everyone that September is HAPPY HEALTHY CAT MONTH!!
This photo of an adorable feral kitten is from my blog post on Stray Cats in the Hood? TNR 'em! TNR, or Trap Neuter and Return feral cats prevents the needless euthanasia of stray or feral cats. Read more about why this works and why removing feral cats doesn't eliminate feral "cat colonies".

Co-existing, happy homes are the best! :) Happy Healthy Cat Month!
She sure was adorable
Lily & Edward
Bless they look like they were the best of friends. So caring of you & your family to give her a loving home. I'm sure you have lots of happy memories.
She was lovely. Our dogs and cats co-existed well too. I sure miss having a cat.
I love a calico. I adopted a cat that was stranded on a rooftop of a house when I lived on a third floor apartment in Chicago. I kept hearing a cry which I actually thought was a baby next door. Long story, but he was the best cat I have ever known.
Happy Cat Month - She was adorable and love the photo of the two of them
My little dudes best bud is a cat! So although we don't have one we often get to "hang" with one. I love the way they seem to have figured each other's signals. Humans could learn from that!
I grew up with dogs and cats living together as best friends, so I was surprised when we got our black lab who thinks it's fun to chase our cats! They peacefully co-exist but there are no cozy nap sessions together, that's for sure!
Dexter has 2 cat siblings. I think he thinks he is a cat!
Happy Cat Month! This kitty is adorable, I have worked with many TNR kitties, they are such precious souls. I truly believe in this program and gals it is being implemented in more communities
We started off the month by getting sick. We know the importance of staying healthy and happy.
I love the TNR missions across the country. Your Maggie was beautiful. ♥
That grey and white kitty is adorable!
I'm going to impress my cat friends by telling them I know this bit of information! Thanks for sharing :)
Icy and Maggie - too darned adorable!!! Thanks for the reminder - we love kitties, particularly our neighbor cat who likes to join our family by coming in my doggy door!
Love bi-petual families! Icy looks so protective of Maggie in that photo. Too beautiful. Thanks for letting us know about Happy Healthy cat month 👍
We had the 4 stray kittens and 2 rescue dogs and some rabbits at one point all co-existing happily. Now we are down to one spoilt only Pug. He chased Nala so don't think he is good at co-existing. She didn't like him much either.
Thank you for sharing a pic of sweet Maggie. RIP -what a munchkin and I'm sure you miss her so much.
We have some active TNR programs here!
I am SOOOO allergic to cats and it bums me out. My dog stayed with my neighbor for a week, and got along with their cats. I was quite surprised!
Happy Wordless Wednesday! Such a lovely picture. I'm so sorry you lost her :(
Love the photo - who said dogs and cats can't be best friends?!
I am a big believer in TNR and have helped with trapping in our area.
Maggie was beautiful! How cute that she and Icy were so close! I am sure you both miss her very much.
I wish Isagold & Bettyblue wanted to happily coexist with Finndawg... Betty is up for it, but Isa is having none of it! Happy Healthy Cat Month all!!
So nice you have these memories of Maggie and your pup!
She was adorable. We had 4 stray cats and 2 rescue dogs for many years and they co-existed fine, along with some bunnies and fish. Unfortunately Kilo arrived as a foster meant to be OK with cats but really wanted to chase Nala and grab her neck and she was pretty cranky by nearly 18 and had kidney disease so we kept them apart for the 8 weeks they overlapped. RIP Nala.
They sure are!
Yes, Maggie was my little angel.
Thank you. I miss having a cat too, especially my Maggie cat.
Thanks! Happy Healthy Cat Month to you too. I miss my sweet Maggie.
I love when cats & dogs are good friends, it's a beautiful thing! We had to do some serious training with my Husky on the Leave It command - this precious photo was taken right after she first mastered Leave It and we could all hang out peacefully together!
LOL, that is too funny! How wonderful that Dexter appreciates his kitty siblings.
I hope sweet Brulee is feeling much better now. Having healthy pets is super important!
Thanks for the compliment on my sweet angel Maggie, she was so special. I'm a huge fan of TNR, it is so effective and very humane.
Isn't that just the cutest kitty!? My sister named him Jake but later found out he was a she, so then they called her Jackie, LOL!
Thank you so much for sharing this message about TNR, it is so important! It's an effective and humane way to handle feral cats and cat "colonies".
Ha, Ha! I love that the neighbor kitty comes to the dog door, that's so adorable. We love kitties too, I miss having one.
LOL!! I'm impressed that the cats and dogs didn't chase (or heaven forbid eat!) the bunnies! That must have been so wonderful. Kilo is certainly spoiled, but so darned cute!
Thanks Christy, I do miss her very much. We had been through so much together. I love both cats and dogs so much!
I'm so glad to hear that! TNR is a great initiative.
Absolutely! We had to train my Husky Icy at the Leave It command, this is the first photo we took right after she mastered Leave It and they could co-exist peacefully. Icy LOVED Maggie to pieces but liked to "play" with her too much & Maggie would have none of it until the Leave It command saved us!
I'm a huge supporter of TNR as well, it's effective & humane. Thanks for the compliments on Maggie, I loved her so much and I really still miss her. Icy loved her so very much, and she Liked & tolerated Icy, LOL!
It wasn't easy for us, believe me. We had to work hard at training Icy with the Leave It command. Once she had that one down we were home free! Give that a try, see if it helps. I hope so.
I have so many great memories of Maggie cat, she was so special.
Oh Yikes, poor Nala! I can only imagine how she must have disliked that, especially at age 18. I'm sorry you lost Nala to that dreaded, all too common kidney disease. I know how much you must miss her as I miss my Maggie.
I love calico's too, that's what led me to adopt Maggie, sight unseen! I love your rescue story, that's so sweet thanks for sharing it.
I'll let you in on a secret - I'm allergic to cats too! I refused to give up on having them, but they've gotten so much worse I haven't brought another cat into my home. It's so sweet that your dog gets along with the neighbor cats, I love that!
Happy cat month to you too! I love the photo of this cute kitty, so sweet. TNR programs are great, very effective and humane way of dealing with feral cats & cat colonies. I'm glad it's a growing initiative too!
I love when families have more than one type of pet too, it's a beautiful thing! Icy really was so protective of Maggie, she loved her so.
Yes, my dog Icy and Maggie cat co-existed very well and Icy just loved her!
It must have been wonderful growing up with both dogs and cats living together as besties! That's so great. I had to teach Icy the Leave It command big time to get to the point where they are in this photo. Maybe teaching your Lab the Leave It command can help you too? It takes time & patience but it works!
Thank you Valerie. She had a great life and a long one, she lived just under 19 years! I couldn't ask for much more than that.
We have three happy, healthy spoiled cats. And thanks for promoting TNR. I do this with the ferals in my neighborhood every year.
Happy Cat Month! from the cat-loving Magic and his kitty friends Karma and Seren.
our pets only leave us with beautiful memories to cherish. Memories of Maggie will live on forever
My cat and dog are best friends. It's become clear over the years that they are a vital part of the other's emotional well-being. There's nothing better than a BFF
Yay for Happy Healthy Cat Month! We are a dog and cat family as well -- and I love your picture of Icy and Maggie. RIP sweet Maggie!
Thank you for adopting her. She was a beautiful cat
Happy Healthy Cat Month to all!
Yay for happy and healthy cats! While I'm allergic, I always find myself pining for one anyway. So, I live vicariously through those friends and fellow bloggers that have cats :)
What a wonderful post on a woofie blog! TW helps in TNR in our hood and she feeds any stray she sees. Yes, I suppose from what I've seen woofies and cats can coexist.
Our cat thinks he's a dog and co-exists with our 5 dogs so well. =)
I had 3 cats when living in Israel and actually was fortunate as they were very happy together. Now its dog only
What a sweet picture, and they look so cute! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Amy, Happy Healthy Cat Month to all of you as well!
Yes, very precious memories. (- :
I love that photo so much, it was a great moment.
She was so special, there was no other like her!
To you as well Nichole!
I'm actually allergic as well but I didn't care, I always had cats until Maggie cat passed away. I'm pining for another one too now.
Aww, thanks Cathy! I'm so glad TNR is being done in your 'hood as well, it's an important program. NO need for cats to be rounded up and euthanized, they can live just fine as long as their numbers don't get out of control. Good mousers too!
LOL! That must be so much fun!
It's nice that you gave 3 kitties a home while you were in Israel!
Thanks, Rosa! They are so adorable, I loved this photo so much.
I can see that for sure. Icy was so upset when Maggie passed away. She kept going from room to room sniffing, trying to smell for her. It was so heartbreaking.
Yay for happy, healthy, & spoiled kitties! I'm so glad you participate in TNR efforts, thank you for doing that!
I sometimes find our cat snuggling with Theo. It always makes me smile, especially since the shelter said that Theo was cat aggressive.
How wonderful you adopted her and they got along so well. Maybe it's time to bring another feline into your home.
How sweet Icy and Maggie are in that photo! Peacefully co-existing - lucky! That is wonderful! My big sweetie Husky Gibson used to like to hang out on the front lawn with our kitties, but the rest of the FiveSibes...nothing peaceful about it when they see a cat, including when Binx dares to come into "their" backyard and tease them! Love the little feral...we rehabilitated, vetted, and adopted Binx, once a feral, who now believes he is King of the front lawn! Okay - he is...!
My mom has 5 feral cats that were trapped and spayed or nuetered and then left to live happy lives.
LOL! Don't you just love when they prove everyone wrong!? Bless their sweet little hearts.
It took a bit of work with the Leave It command for Icy but after many weeks it was fine. Icy loved Maggie so much. I'd love another cat but we need to wait awhile longer to add another pet.
Oh I love that!! Sweet Gibson, I can just imagine him laying out on the grass with his kitty siblings. That sweet boy. I'm really glad you cared for and adopted Binx! He must have such fun tormenting the Sibes! Thanks for sharing this.
That's so wonderful of your Mom to help the feral kitties, thanks for sharing that! My sister did the same thing. I'm so grateful for people like your Mom and my Sis!
I think the TNR program is a great one! I have posted about this in the past as well. When we rescued one of our cats as a kitten, we were told he was from a feral cat litter
