Huskies Really Are Snowdogs

On Long Island, New York, we had a fairly mild Winter in terms of snow.  Lots of colder weather and rain but very little of the white stuff.  My dog Icy was not pleased.  Being a Siberian Husky, she lives for cold weather and SNOW, which is why Huskies are often called "Snowdogs"!

Fortunately, Mother Nature obliged and finally delivered over 5 inches of snow for Icy's Snowdog pleasure.  Here are some fun photos of her and Cooper, Icy's Golden Retriever love interest, enjoying a romp in the snow.

This photo is my favorite.  Icy is so excited to play in the snow, she looks like a wolf rather than a dog, don't you think?

Siberian Huskies are high energy dogs. When they play, they play hard! Huskies, Siberian Huskies, Snowdogs, Dogs playing in snow

Siberian Huskies tend to be a lot more energetic than most dogs.  When you see them playing it sometimes looks like they're playing rough.   Icy doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body, but when she plays she is pretty rough and tumble.  Both dogs are 9 years old now, and Cooper  has slowed down considerably.  Not Icy though, she's as energetic and rambunctious as when she was a puppy!

Here's Icy saying "C'mon Coop, let's get wild in the snow like we used to"!  And Cooper is looking at her like "Haven't you had enough yet, you crazy Husky?"

In the end both Cooper and Icy finally relax after a fun romp in the snow they've waited so long for!

Your snow is beautiful and I know Icy is enjoying herself. We are loving the upper 70s today!

Icy is so beautiful. Does Phoebe like to run in the snow, too? I hope I can see Icy someday - big hugs for a wonderful weekend. Spring is right around the corner.

All our guys love(d) snow. They also photograph wonderfully against snow backdrop. Unfortunately, this year, the "snow" we got is such a mess that for the first time ever I can't wait for it to melt.

What beautiful pictures and seeing them romp with happiness is awesomee. We just have had non stop rain that it getting too much for us. So poor Layla is stuck inside as she hates it LOL

Yes, come on over Ruby! It's great fun playing in all the snow we got.

Icy comes alive in the snow, it's amazing to watch her main breed trait kick in! Oh 70's sounds so good right now - to me, not Icy LOL!

The cold & snow are what she was made for! I love that first photo so much, she looks like a wolf. Phoebe doesn't love the cold but somehow she loves to run & play in the snow too believe it or not! I hope you can see Icy again soon too. She loved seeing you at the BP conferences!

I'm sorry this year is disappointing you snow-wise. We hardly got anything at all until this snowfall, which was glorious! Icy photographs great in the snow too, I love taking photos & video of her in snow.

Thanks Ruth, I love seeing the dogs play in the snow with reckless abandon! I hope that awful rain goes away soon and Layla can have the sun shining on her pretty face again.

Now those are some happy dogs! Isn't it wonderful to see a senior like Icy playing so enthusiastically. Maybe next winter she can come visit us for a "snow camp", we've had more than enough snow to keep her happy! :)

Aww Coop and Icy look like they were having a blast. Same here in Jersey! We got about 5-8 inches here. I'm about ready for Spring now.

Oh Icy does love the snow doesn't she? I's not my thing at all but I can see that those dogs are having a total blast!!! we only get snow once every 30 years or so ;-) so only Dash and Sienna remember it I guess!

Your pups always look like they are enjoying the snow so very much! Our pups do too, but definitely love coming inside and lazy-ing up to the fireplace. This winter has been a bit odd - more snow than usual here in Seattle!

They are having a great time for sure. I love the look on Icy's face in that first picture.

One of my last memories of my springer spaniel, Cassie (she died 4 years ago), was of her making a snow angle and the imprint of her tail in the snow lasted for days. Every time we walked by it my husband would say "There's Cassie's snow angel." She loved it. Unfortunately, my current senior cocker spaniel hates the snow.

You got some great action shots of Icy! Sophie, my Eskimo mix, likes the snow, but Theo and Nelly only like it for about the first fifteen minutes of winter. Unfortunately, we get a lot of snow in Central New York.

They sure are happy, and yes it's so heartwarming to see my 9 year old romping in the snow like a puppy. We'd love to come for snow camp!

They had so much fun, it's was really great. Icy slept like a log that night LOL! You have gotten a lot of snow this year in Jersey. We hardly got anything so this was a delight.

Wow, you don't get snow in Winter in NZ? I didn't know that! I love the snow - but not TOO much of it LOL!

I heard about all that snow in Seattle this year, I don't envy commuters in that stuff. Icy loves the snow and the cold more than anything. Little Phoebe doesn't love it, although she will play in it when we travel and have a great time.

I love that first photo too! I think I'll frame that one and add it to my office inspiration wall. She was in doggie heaven.

What a wonderful memory, Cassie's snow angel! I'm sure I'll always remember Icy playing like made in the snow.

I'm so happy with these photos, particularly that first one - that's my favorite shot of the year so far. Phoebe doesn't care for snow or the cold but I can't get Icy to stay inside if it's cold out!

It's so great having you join us in our blog hop this week! Woo! Love the snow pics! I bet Icy was in her glory! I love watching snow dogs in their element and how happy they are when it snows! Our Huskies were, too, and it was perfect because Harley had "birthday snow" on her special day!

Icy looks so happy in that first photo! All our snow is gone (for now) and we are just having lots of rain. Ruby isn't crazy about snow or rain. LOL

Thanks Dorothy! I'm glad to join this week too. Icy had such a blast playing in the snow w/ her boyfriend Cooper who lives next door! It' so nice that it snowed on Harley's B'day, she must have loved that.

My girls hate the rain, I hope we don't get too many April showers. Icy was in Husky Heaven w/ all that snow. It's the only really great snowfall we had all year in our neck of the woods!
