In an emergency situation, you don't want to waste time having to think about all the pet supplies you'll need, search the house for them, and find something to pack them in.
ESSENTIAL ITEMS YOU NEED FOR A PET EMERGENCY GO BAG
PIN THIS!
✱ 3-5 days (5 days is better) of water and dog food in airtight containers, with food and water bowls
✱ Medications and supplements
✱ Pet carrier or crate
✱ Dog's Rabies certification, other medical documents, and ownership documentation
✱ Extra Leash (and Harness if you use one)
✱ First aid kit
✱ Blanket or towel
✱ Comfort toy, chew sticks/treats to help dogs stay calm

In addition to these essential dog supplies, you should have a flashlight in case the power goes out. You should have some cash with you as well. When there's a power outage merchants often revert to cash only business. Gas, food and lodging along your evacuation route may require cash.
During the 2003 blackout in New York City, it was really disconcerting to be unexpectedly stranded in the city and unable to use a credit card for anything until power was restored! It was quite scary.
Face masks and gloves for health protection are also good supplies to have with you.

Shared via Twitter. I especially learned the cash thing the hard way. Way back when, we got hit hard by hurricane Sandy and went over a week without power. No one could take credit and we hadn't thought ahead to keep out any cash. That was stressful! I keep an emergency kit in the trunk of my car, for both us humans and all our pets. I do what you do and once in awhile go through my kit and replace anything that's close to expiring.
It is so so so important to be prepared, the minute I moved to San Francisco it was one of the first things I did, prepare a bag with everyone for Layla plus me, I check it once a year and it is easy access. Great reminder
This is a great resource for emergency preparedness. Love the pin too! And remembering to bring cash is one think most will forget. I know often times we have no cash just card. The backpacks are the perfect place to keep all the essentials! Sharing!
We do have an emergency go bag, but we really do have to take a look at it and replace some items. Thank you for the reminder that it is that time of year again! We don't have a lot of natural disasters up here in Michigan, but it is good to be prepared just in case.
Although we live in an area that has low risk of natural disasters, man made disasters can occur anywhere. We have a pet emergency go bag for all our pets.

All such great information! I had a stocked red bag at the ready all the years with my FiveSibes. I still have that bag...fully stocked., I am keeping it as our first aid kit. I can't let go of it.
